ĒMI 8 // MASTER SERIES // VERDANT GREEN

ēmi ™ is basically the sibling to the Larada. It retains the elegant and ergonomic form of the single cut variant, while offering a more aggressive shape for those who prefer double cut-away body styles. The design is highlighted by the asymmetrical, subtle teardrop-shaped OVIFORM + - ™ neck profile.

This ēmi Master Series collection sports light-weight okoume bodies and korina necks, paired with a roasted maple or ebony fingerboards. As always, each piece of wood is hand-selected, with great attention paid to quality, weight, and overall resonance of the instrument.

    A true high-performance guitar

Most ergonomic 8 strings are simply upscaled versions of existing ergonomic guitar designs. I have found that this approach does not work, as the 8 string presents unique challenges that require several elements of the guitar to be physically redesigned.

There are three design elements unique to this instrument that I should point out, as they are difficult to capture via photos but make a big difference when playing:

    1) Decreased space between the strings makes the neck narrower, thereby making the 7th and 8th strings more accessible. This makes a big difference when starting arpeggios from the lower register, as your pinky can actually reach the root, 3rd or 5th scale degree without bending your wrist too much.

    2) The oviform neck profile allows your thumb to stay relaxed when playing. For many chords on a 6 string, I leave my thumb visible over the top of the fretboard. I do this to keep a straight wrist and avoid using the thumb to "pinch" the neck. The oviform neck profile approximates the narrow neck of a 6 string by making the neck beneath the lower register physically thinner. Instead of your thumb resting on the top of the fretboard, it is resting just behind it. I find this is a reasonable compromise for the additional 2 strings.

    3) The large arm rest is great for reducing tension on your left thumb when fretting. By using the large arm rest, you can tuck your right elbow in to push the neck against your fretting hand instead of pinching with your thumb. This allows you to play faster, more accurately, and with less tension in your fretting hand.

All things considered, this is an excellent instrument that was obviously designed by a player rather than by an engineer.

The only critique I have is that more information would be appreciated. I do not know much about the pickups or the wiring setup, which makes it difficult to understand exactly what the push-pull pot actually affects.

    Incredible guitar

Sounds, looks, and feels incredible to play. It's super light as well, which makes long sessions a lot more viable.
