Pathos Distortion

The Abasi Pathos distortion pedal presents an impassioned appeal to the varied sonic needs of the modern guitarist. Designed to retain the feel of an American-style tube amp channel, its versatility is derived from the “smooth” and “edge” voicings that range from an emotive crunch all the way to scorching, yet controlled distortion and sustain. The two voicings can be sculpted with a set of musically-tuned EQ shelves and mid control, as well as potent gain and level controls.

It is these precision tools that allow Pathos to encompass the functionality of several dirt boxes in one – be it a push to a driven amp, a full-on distortion channel in front of a clean amp, or a boost in front of a digital modeler. Crafted in the USA by Tosin Abasi in conjunction with Brian Wampler, Pathos is the choice for any discerning guitarist seeking an array of distortion flavors to emote their musical story.

Very good for rhythm, perfect for leads

Tested it on JC-40

- sounds great with both humbuckers and singles
- thick and transparent, controllable sound
- definitely djents. I like its distortion character a lot
- not noisy
- very versatile wide range EQ knobs, with good response even at max parameters. Bass is not boomy, mids are not honky, treble is not fizzy. Just perfect.
- Its possible to dial up perfect tone without an overdrive pedal in front

Love it.

The best distortion pedal ever.
It’s so good, I bought a second one as a backup in the highly unlikely event that my first one goes down.

Great sounding pedal and very dynamic

This is a great pedal, the smooth and edge switch is a nice feature that opens up another pallet of tones. The three band EQ makes it great for pedal platform amps where you don't want to sacrifice your clean tone when using the drive pedal. It has a nice tight low end which I love. The only thing I noticed is that the volume output of the pedal is tuned very low. You have to turn the volume knob up almost all the way to bring it up to solo level (I like to come up about 10dB on the solo tone). I'm not sure if anyone knows why they built it that way with so little headroom.
